“Great technical leadership requires more than just great coding skills. It requires a variety of other skills that are not well-defined."
In this trailer episode, your host Henry Suryawirawan explains why he created this brand new podcast and what you can expect and learn from it.
Henry Suryawirawan: Hey, everybody. Welcome to the Tech Lead Journal. I am your host Henry Suryawirawan.
I’m super excited to be here with you today to introduce my new podcast. As we all know, great technical leadership requires more than just great coding skills. It also requires a variety of other skills that are generally not well-defined. And I find that they are not something that we can fully learn in any schools or books available out there. And so as part of my career journey, I myself have gone through phases in which I tried my best to learn by myself on how to be a better technical leader. But I’ve also failed a number of times, especially during my time in a tech startup, being the head of an engineering team.
Fortunately in my career, I’ve also had the chance to meet many great technical leaders and mentors, the ones who seem able to achieve incredible things in their career. And those people are the ones that I’ll invite to this podcast. Hear from them sharing their journey and philosophy for building great technical teams. Find out what makes them great and how to apply those lessons to your work and team.
Now, here are some of the topics you can expect as you’re listening through this podcast. We’re going to be talking about leadership, practices, technologies, productivity, effective team, and so much more. The leaders that I’ll be bringing to this podcast, they often have long career journey. They lead successful technical teams. They speak on stage. They also write blogs and books. And they’ve applied these kinds of ideas to really be successful in their career. So how can you as an individual get to take those actionable ideas from them and make similar impact? I will also try my best to summarize the key learning from each episode, similar to a journal, that we all can come back from time to time, to remind ourselves of those great ideas that these technical leaders have shared with us.
I am extremely excited to get started. I’m going to have some amazing guests kicking off the podcast. And if you’d like to be the first to hear these episodes, definitely subscribe to the Tech Lead Journal on your favorite podcast app. Also do let me know what kind of content or guests that you would like to hear in this podcast.
My name is Henry Suryawirawan, and I’ll see you on the first episode.
